Valpuri Kylmänen Remling, Tamarind Workshop Manager

Valpuri Kylmänen Remling, aka "Valps," hails from Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland (on the Arctic Circle), where she fell in love with the deep black ink used in lithography. In 2007, after receiving her MFA in printmaking from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, she attended Tamarind Institute's Professional Printer Training Program. Upon receiving her TMP certificate in 2009, Valps returned to Helsinki, Finland, and became co-owner of Helsinki Litho. In addition to working as a master printer, she taught lithography at the University of the Arts, Helsinki, in the Academy of Fine Arts printmaking program. The move from Finland to Albuquerque has been a big one, but she is settling in and beginning to make the workshop her own. Valpuri's infectious enthusiasm and superb printing skills will definitely be a draw for our artists and students.

Candice Corgan, Apprentice Printer

Candice Corgan is apprenticing on the professional side of the workshop with Valpuri. Prior to completing the Tamarind Professional Printer Training Program, Candice received a BFA in printmaking from Southeast Missouri State University. She didn't discover lithography until her senior year, but in her application for the program she wrote, "I had never been so captivated by a particular process in printmaking until I took lithography." Her captivation and talent were evident during the Tamarind program, and now she is on her way to becoming a Tamarind Master Printer.

Brandon Gunn, Interim Education Director

Starting in January 2016, Brandon Gunn will oversee Tamarind's educational programs, including the Printer Training Program and the Summer Aluminum Plate Workshop. Brandon's contract will extend through the 2016-17 school year.

Brandon completed the Tamarind Professional Printer Training Program in 2007, and received his Tamarind Master Printer certificate in 2008. Since leaving Tamarind, Brandon has taught printmaking at Santa Fe Community College, Concordia University (Montreal), Brigham Young University Idaho, and Indiana University (Bloomington).

Brandon is a skilled master printer, and an educator at heart. We are confident that Tamarind's students will benefit from his expertise and patience, and that they will enjoy his keen sense of humor! We look forward to his return to Albuquerque in January.
